Winston Churchill - Prime Minister
On 10 May 1940, after the resignation of Neville Chamberlain, Winston Churchill was appointed Prime Minister. Renowned British historian Andrew Roberts tells this story in his great biography:
The King received Churchill graciously and bade him to sit down. "I suppose you don't know why I have sent for you?". Adopting his mood, Churchill replied "Sir, I simply couldn't imagine why." The King laughed and said "I want you to form a Government." "I would certainly do so".
And so began the journey of a man who picked up the fight against Nazi Germany. Where the previous Prime Minister failed, Winston Churchill will re-ignite the resolve of his nation and during his tim, truly made Britain Great. (No pun intended at all).
